Bovis Lend Lease to build new Market

Updated: 06/10/2009

Bovis Lend Lease have been selected to design and construct the $300 million main market floor of Melbourne’s new Wholesale Fruit, Vegetable and Flower Market.

The purpose-built, 133-hectare market at Cooper Street, Epping, is expected to be operational in 2012.

In August, Bovis Lend Lease were recognised as Victorian Master Builder of 2009 for their work on the Melbourne Recital Centre and Melbourne Theatre Company Projects.

Major Projects Minister Tim Pallas said the project would ensure the viability of the wholesale market, crucial to the state’s $11.8 billion agricultural sector.

“On a busy day up to 4000 wholesalers, growers and retailers use the current market, supplying thousands of restaurants, supermarkets and local grocers throughout Melbourne and regional Victoria,” he said.

“This new market project will be a great boost for the market community and all those who benefit from a bigger, better Melbourne Wholesale Market.”
