1800 AGRONOMIST

VGA-Vic welcomes the “1800 Agronomist” advice hotline for vegetable growers, launched this week by HAL and AUSVEG

The service is provided free of charge to all levy paying vegetable growers.The launch in Melbourne was attended by VGA-Vic and the agronomists who will be servicing the hotline.

This industry-driven nationwide initiative has been introduced to provide technical support and address gaps in knowledge across the industry.

Technical advice will be provided through the service by a leading Australian agronomy service provider. 

The hotline will provide a useful resource for growers to obtain technical advice over the phone in a range of subject areas, including:

  • Pest identification and control problems
  • Weed control
  • Crop nutrition
  • Post-harvest concerns
  • Seed & Genetic selection
  • Protected cropping
  • Other on-farm technical issues

Available free to vegetable levy payers, the telephone-based service provides general agronomic advice from a highly trained and experienced agronomic service provider.

The service will be particularly useful to growers that do not employ a full-time agronomist or cannot easily access technical information.

The project has been funded by the National Vegetable Levy using matched funds from the Australian Government.
