Vale – Jack Mills

William John Mills, born at Heatherton in 1932, passed to rest 20 Nov 2008, aged 76.

Jack began growing summer crops in the early 1950’s, while still dairying. He and his brother grew potato, pumpkin, sweet corn and later, parsnip and cabbage seed.

Married to Rita May – affectionately known as Maisie – for 52 years, Maisie laughingly recalls Jacks amazement in 1955 when they shipped potatoes to Antartica !

But Jack is best remembered, for his rhubarb … and many travellers have admired Jacks rhubarb crop while driving along the Westernport Highway.
