Crop Water Use

Key Points:

  1. Evapotranspiration (ET) data will help you estimate the water needs of your crop
  2. ET is a measure of water transpired by the plant as well as evaporation
    from the soil

  3. ET provides an estimate of the minimum amount of water used by a crop
  4. Additional water may be indicated for:
    • some soil types
    • some production and irrigation systems
    • critical crop growth stages
    • leaching of accumulating soil salts
