Updated: 14/07/2009

Young people with career aspirations in Australia’s rural sector are being offered the opportunity to apply for a national traineeship program with leading Australian agribusiness Elders Rural Services.Applications for the second intake of trainees are now open.

The second intake of trainees has come close on the heels of the successful program for the initial inductees according to Elders Rural Services Managing Director Mike Guerin, who said maintaining business strength and skills in rural Australia is vital to local communities.

“This program is part of Elders’ commitment to invest in the communities we seek to serve,” Mr Guerin said. “Our program offers a significant employment opportunity for young people at a time when global financial uncertainty is impacting on the rural sector.

“We were extremely pleased with the success of the first intake, with 36 trainees being appointed to positions at Elders branches across Australia. It’s a career development opportunity for rural and regional Australians that few other companies can provide.”

Elders’ national traineeship program provides a comprehensive introduction to the company’s full range of business areas – from wool and livestock to banking, agronomy, financial services and real estate – before enabling trainees to specialise in particular geographic and operational areas of interest.

Trainees will be based at local Elders branches and undertake a two-year training course to obtain Certificate III in Rural Operations.

Young people seeking more information about Elders’ national traineeship program are invited to visit www.elders.com.au/careers under traineeships, or call Michelle Cottrell, National Recruitment Specialist on 08 8425 5371. Applications can be made on the website and close on 31 July.
