On receiving the award, Nathan said, “The award shows the horticulture industry now welcomes different types of farming. There are a few things we’re doing that are normally outside the box.”

Nathan started growing vegetables when he was 15 and sold them at a roadside stall. He now manages vegetable production and the packhouse at Alkira Organics, Lake Boga, near Swan Hill.

AUSVEG CEO, Richard Mulcahy congratulated Nathan on receiving his award. “Nathan addressed a 2012 Parliamentary Inquiry into attracting youth to the industry and is a supporter of increasing awareness of horticulture as a career option.”

“It is important that we recognize the achievements of young growers to ensure we foster our next generation of leaders,” said Mr Mulcahy.
